Stone ore nodes contain stones. Ore Nodes are most commonly found around cliffs, mountains and other rock formations. Due to this they are scarcely found in open fields. Hitting the yellow glowing 'hot spot' will speed up the mining process.

if you are fresh spawn and less rock in your map square, gather for wood first. Then gather stone until you could craft stone pickaxe. Wait a while until stone pickaxe crafted then continue gather the least stone ore, I'ts adds more stones.
