Smoke Grenade

The Smoke Grenade is a non-lethal canister-type grenade with many useful purposes. It creates a large cloud of thick grayish smoke that cannot be seen through. It can be used in various environments to cover you from enemy vision, forcing them to either shoot or reposition. Best used in urban or wooded areas, where the flat surface will let it create the smoke screen. It can be acquired from Outpost vending machines and crafted.

Smoke grenades can be bought for 5 scrap and recycled for 18 gunpowder and 25 metal frags making it much cheaper to get gunpowder and metal frags with scrap than f1 grenades.

To add onto what Atmos said, recycling Smoke Grenades gives you 5 Metal Fragments per 1 scrap, where you can normally buy 10 Metal Fragments per 1 scrap, so the profit is cut in half. However, This is one of the fastest ways to obtain Gunpowder quickly. If you are able to stockpile scrap quickly, then you have no need to hit sulfur nodes.

In fact, since smoke grenades provide the same metal/scrap ratio as buying directly metal from outpost, that makes it one of the best scrap investment item in the game. The only limiting factor is the outpost vending machine's limited stock but I don't think many people know about this so the stock will most likely always be full

Smokes are great when you are trying to seal your base. They give you time to upgrade your twig walls etc.
