The Small Water Catcher is a deployable that collects water passively. It's useful to keep a solo player or small group hydrated without having to leave their base. The catcher is capable of holding 10,000 ml of water. Catchers receive collection bonuses during weather events such as rain, snow, and fog.

Small Water Catchers are superior to Large Water Catchers.
Large Water Catchers require 5x the wood, 4x the metal, and 2x the tarps but only provide around 2.5x the water. Not to mention that they're ugly and incredibly difficult to place.
You can fit up to 5 Small Water Catchers on a square foundation square or 3 Small Water Catchers on a triangle foundation.
If you have multiple water catchers at the same elevation, you can connect one's output to another's input using the Hose Tool. This will group all of the water into one catcher without the need of Fluid Combiner although you will be limited to 20mL/sec output. This only becomes an issue if your water catchers are full or if you have 20+ of them daisy-chained together. No water will be wasted unless _all_ of the connected water catchers are full.

Quick update for small water catchers, since the weather update when the server rains water catchers collect faster. therefore they are viable for small scale farming.
Rates: the normal rate seems to be ~3ml/min when it rains the rate seems to be ~12ml/min
Viable for farming: if you live on a server far from water sources you can set up a few small water catchers on the roof of your base, if they are on the same level the can connect together, connect those to a couple of water barrels and then to a fluid cominber followed by a switch. when you need to water your planters switch the switch on and turn it off when you are done.
I played on a trio vanilla server and farmed potatos and cloth using 2 water barrels and about 10 small water catchers, come morning due to rain both barrels and 2 of the catchers would be full and have more than enough water to farm 4-5 cycles of anything you wish on about 6 large planters.
large scale farming: i have not tried it yet but i assume that it is possible to collect water in ~8 barrels and put 30-40 small water catchers on the roof this way you can farm on a large scale for a few hours a day. although at this point you would rather have your farm on a water source...

After 2023 updates one [url=https://rustlabs.com/item/small-water-catcher]Small Water Catcher[/url] is enough to take care of single planter. If you chain 5-6 of them into [url=https://rustlabs.com/item/water-barrel]Water Barrel[/url] you should be able to make 3x3 farm. Unfortunately, they cannot be picked up with hammer.

Very useful to keep inside of your compound or outside of your base. Can be used to transfer or collect water from a Water Jug, Small Water Bottle or Water Bucket.

Small Water Catchers collect around 2.8mL per minute or around 170mL per hour. At that rate, it takes around 60 hours to fill up the catcher's 10,000mL storage.
Unfortunately, this isn't a viable method of providing steady water for indoor plants. Hemp typically requires 4-6mL per minute, so you'd need around 18 Small Water Catchers to keep a Large Planter Box hydrated.
