Instead of wasting a ton of power on the memory gate, just use an [url=https://rustlabs.com/item/and-switch#order;tab=tips;page=1]AND switch[/url]. Connect a power source to one input, HBHF to another (power it with a Branch set on 2) and... there you go. The AND switch will use that 1 power that HBHF emits, so the overall cost is only that 2 power (+1 for powering that Branch I guess)

THE HBHF Sensor transmits a signal based on two configurations:
  1. Include/exclude authorized users
  2. Include/exclude other (non-authorized) users

Pressing e on the device only switches between the first configuration, so you'll have to hold e to be able to change the other one.
The most common configuration people use is excluded auth and included other, which is useful for raiders to trigger traps while not being able to trigger them yourself.

These make a rather obvious sound, so if you have any set up to trigger traps, it's a good idea to put a decoy sensor somewhere in plain sight to give raiders a false sense of security.

the radius of the hbhf is about 3.6 square foundations, in a sphere that's centered around the center point of the base of the hbhf (not on the tip of the microphone looking thing - imagine it was a sphere that was cut in half, creating the hemisphere shape. the center of the radius is from where the center of the sphere wouldve been). this is slightly different than the 10 meters suggested by the description, and is based on testing I did on Builders Sanctuary on the date this comment is posted (May 14 /2021). And ofc this range can be blocked by walls and stuff. If you place it on an angle like a corner or side of a wall where part of it is sticking out to one side, it will also be able to detect stuff around the corner, proving that its range is not like a half-sphere as the shape of its model might suggest. As long as enough of it is sticking out so that u can make a LOS from the center of the hbhf to the player, then you've done this right and you can always test it out by making it detect you. You can customize how much it sees around a corner by making less of it stick out.
So, no, putting it on a corner isnt where u should "always" put it or something, its just another idea to put in your toolbox. the real takeaway here is knowing the center of the hbhf is where the radius comes from, which you can use to make many tactically useful shapes when using hbhfs in some kind of system aimed at raid defense.
Do testing on your own base to identify what hbhf placements make the most sense for your particular application.

if you have vehicles, it may be worth it to set one to exclude others and include authorized users so compound doors open automatically when youre trying to get in

If you want to use the HBHF sensor to be able to power multiple things then just do this: Set up HBHF, a rf broadcaster then set the rf ID and place a rf receiver. Set the same ID to the rf receiver and use it to power whatever you want. This will make it so that when the HBHF sensor goes off then those things you want to power will have power.
